Top 5 things to do in Ft. Myers Beach

My family has been going to Ft. Myers Beach for 20 years…. TWENTY YEARS! We have a timeshare and we have loved it. FMB is a tiny, tiny island. It isn’t really touristy the way Tampa, Miami, Destin, etc. are so we have enjoyed it even more because it’s our little secret :) We go for 2 straight weeks, which is a long time to be somewhere. These are my top 5 (with one honorable mention) things to do in Fort Myers Beach:

Lovers Key State Park

Last year was the first time I’ve actually visited Lovers Key, and man have I been missing out. It is absolutely gorgeous. Lovers Key is a set of islands right off Fort Myers Beach and has some incredible walking/hiking trails, waterways to kayak and canoe, and beautiful beaches. My dad and I hiked the Black Island trail, which is about 2.6 miles. The trail goes through some impressive greenery and along the waterways. It’s mostly covered, but be sure to wear a hat to protect your head while you’re walking. It’s also sandy so wear tall socks or taller shoes so the sand doesn’t rough up your ankles.

Visit the pier and Times Square

We love Bella Mozzarella in Times Square for dinner and always end the night with some ice cream and a walk down the pier. There are some beach shops around here, but it’s all kitschy, touristy trinkets.

Go shopping

There are lots of places to go shopping depending on what you want. I love Miromar and Coconut Point in Bonita Springs for the Calvin Klein underwear, Kate Spade, Loft, and Banana Republic, Saks Off 5th, and a few other stores, Sanibel outlets for the Nike outlet, and for more high-end designers, visit Waterside Shops in Naples.

Visit Sanibel for a day

Sanibel.jpg

It’s $6 toll to get onto the island, but Sanibel is also a hidden gem. It’s the classier cousin to FMB. Get there early and look for shells as it is one of the best places in the world to find shells. There are TONS of restaurants on Sanibel that I haven’t even had the luxury to explore yet (I will next year, in the name of “research”), but we always eat at Mucky Duck because we love a good pub. Their duck duck shrimp and burger are very good.

Do anything with Mid-Island Water Sports

We used to go parasailing every year. Then on my 16th birthday, we switched it up and did the back bay jet ski tour. The jet ski tour takes you alllllll over the island to see manatees and dolphins in the water. This past year, we saw about 8 dolphins and some babies jumping out of the water right next to us. A few even swam under me!

Honorable mention: get a key lime colada at Doc Ford’s Rum Bar.

They may be 5000 calories for one drink, but hot damn are they the best drink I’ve ever tasted. Imagine a pina colada but lime instead pineapple and with PIE CRUMBLES on top!!!!!
