The Hoxton, Holborn Review

On my second trip to London, I decided to check out The Hoxton in Holborn near Covent Garden. I had seen quite a few TikTok girlies staying there and they all raved about it, so as a “hard investigative travel” girl and usual hater of popular things, I decided to give it a try for myself. And what do you know, it was quite great.

Location

Located in High Holborn, this hotel is 600 feet from the nearest tube station (Holborn, which offers the Central and Piccadilly lines) and around the corner from a Sainsbury to get some groceries or snacks.

Other close locations:

  • British Museum - 6-minute walk (0.2 mile)

  • National Gallery - 16-minute walk (0.7 mile)

  • Big Ben/Parliament - 30-minute walk (1.4 miles)

  • West End - 11-minute walk (0.5 mile)

  • Seven Dials Market - 9-minute walk (0.4 mile)

  • Harrods - 15-minute via tube + walk

Room and Hotel

We booked the “Roomy” room. It is roomy for European standards, with a king bed, armchair, walk-in shower and large bathroom. There was also an armoire to hang any clothes which was nice since there is no closet.

You have to request housekeeping as part of their green initiative, but when you do request them, they are quick to arrive!

The hotel itself boasts a coffee bar, a cocktail bar, and a restaurant on-site. We made use of the cocktail bar and coffee bar each day (one free barista-made drink every day + 10% off food and drinks on-site) and so did many locals. The lobby was constantly full from morning to late night.

We did not eat at the restaurant on-site, but it was always busy!

The staff was very friendly and accommodating, allowing us to check-in super early, and the bartenders were very talented and made great cocktails.

Rate

With my Dis-Loyalty discount of 20% off, it ended up being £1,085.60 (which comes out to $1380 at the time of the stay) for three nights. A bit expensive, but fair given the location and how nice the hotel was.

Pros

Location was virtually unbeatable. It was centrally located, close to the Central line which goes right through the city, and the Piccadilly line which goes to Paddington station (great for the Heathrow Express).

Socialising seems central to their business. The lobby was always full of people working, meeting, chatting, drinking - and it seemed like a nice locals hang!

The bar inside was great! It was great to be able to “pre-game” a bit before heading out and the latte each morning was delicious!

Cons

No bathtub! This is personal to me, as I LOVE to end my day with a soak. The shower was fine, though I believe we were in an accessible room, so the glass partition was quite short, so water went all over the bathroom floor.

There are also no washcloths, which I fear is just Europe in general…
