Monaco and Eze Day Trip

When visiting Nice, we decided to do a day trip to Eze and Monaco! Both were so beautiful and I highly recommend taking a few hours out of your day to visit.

Eze

How We Got There

We got an Uber to take us to Eze from our hotel in Nice. However, they offer trains and buses. The train takes you to the bottom of the mountain and then you’ll have to hike, but the buses take you to the top, so I recommend the bus just for that part. Bus lines 82 and 112 are the ones from Nice to grab for Eze.

The Uber was around $20 and it took us about 20 minutes to get there. I didn’t realize how close Eze was to Nice! We drove up and all along the mountain range and it was such a gorgeous drive.

What We Did

We truly just walked the entire little village. It was so beautiful and we tried walking down every street and alleyway. You have to hike a little bit and the walkways are narrow and rocky, so be prepared for that.

We ate at Le Creperie Cactus, which is one of the first restaurants on the hill that you’ll come across. I got the lamb kebabs and Ro got a burger - both were great.

We shopped a bit as well. I got some earrings from a boutique and Ro and I both got some perfume from Fragonard. Most of the shops sell the same things, but the Fragonard shop is very cool. Fragonard offers a workshop where you can make your own perfume, but they didn’t have any openings for the days we visited.

Monaco

How We Got There

We got an Uber from Eze to the Monaco train station for about $15. Uber is illegal in Monaco, so you can Uber to the train station, but not into or out of Monaco.

The train to and from Nice is the best option. It is very quick and it was only 8 euros for our 2 return tickets.

What We Did

We had planned on visiting the aquarium, but decided not to last minute so we had more time to wander. The aquarium looks beautiful and would be a great visit if you decide to go to Monte-Carlo.

We mostly walked and shopped in Monaco. We went to Sellier in their mall, one of my favorite second-hand designer shops. We also bought purses from Dior and Celine. All of the designer shops are in a small area right next to the world-famous casino.

We got a snack at Mada One, though I don’t recommend sitting down to eat here. They have a great patisserie and boulangerie that I recommend grabbing to-go instead.

After our shopping, we got a cocktail at the roof of the Fairmont hotel. It is right next to and below the Monte-Carlo casino. They had great cocktails and beautiful views of water and yachts.

For dinner, we ate at Giacomo. It is part of the Big Mamma Group based in London, but with restaurants also in Paris. I got their famous truffle pasta and Ro got their lobster risotto. Always a safe bet knowing you’ll get great tasting and good quality food.

Monaco is VERY expensive. It is a gorgeous place to visit and so cool to see, but keep in mind food, drinks, and the standard of living/shopping is much higher in cost than most-likely anywhere else in France you will visit.
