Keighlin’s Tips for New Orleans

Next up is Keighlin! She is one of my older sisters and we are closest in age. She is into all things ~ witchy ~ and haunted things and knows the best happy hours in New Orleans. We both love drinking and bacon, and is the funniest person I have ever met, and am lucky she is my sister.

favorite part of nola: “I don’t think I have a specific favorite part. I feel that is limiting because there are so many hidden gems and things to find.”

favorite bar: as she pours more wine “my favorite bar is also my favorite happy hour which is Orleans Grapevine. As a bar, it’s the first place I had a French 75, and is, to this day, my favorite cocktail. And it’s also my favorite happy hour because they have a bacon basket. They also have a REALLY good cheese plate and delicious crusty bread. Ooh they also have a patio on the front, a really cute intimate inside setting, and then a courtyard in the back if you can go back there.”

favorite restaurant: “If you want to go somewhere nice, I really love Seaworthy. They have incredible oysters and have converted me to an oyster lover. For breakfast, Camellia Grille. It’s kind of like Waffle House fare, but everything is pink and everyone who works there is so charismatic. And once you’re drunk, go to Turtle Bay and get every appetizer.”

favorite memory: “Turning 21 in New Orleans and getting dollars pinned on me everywhere I went.”

best touristy experience: “Picking an outrageously long restaurant line in the French Quarter and being pleasantly surprised. And obviously Cafe du Monde.”

favorite museum: “I think the level of preservation makes the city a living museum, so everywhere you go you can learn something.”

favorite street: “Frenchman for the art markets.”

favorite shop: “Not a shop per say, but the artists along Jackson Square are incredible and you should buy their shit.”

best tip for tourists: “Comfortable shoes and if you’re drinking, you should be eating.”

favorite non-touristy thing to do: “Get up really, really early and just take a walk to get coffee.”

go-to new orleans outfit: “sundress and doc martens. For ultimate care-free stomping.”

favorite brunch / coffee shop: “Envie Espresso Bar & Cafe. All of their coffee is good, and they’ll also give you coffee with booze in it. And they have a reliable bathroom. And incredible people watching.”

favorite gallery: “That’s a cruel question. You’ve gotta keep your options open.”

if you can only go to nola one last time, what is your ideal day?: “No.”
