Where to Eat in Key West
Key West has no shortage of restaurants, bars, and places to snack. I loooove trying new restaurants and bars so this seemed like a great challenge to me.
Below is everywhere I ate, what I got, what I recommend, and roughly how much you’re going to spend at each place.
Blue Heaven
Blue Heaven came highly recommended by so many people. And hot take… it was just okay! I sat at the bar and ordered pancakes, they were good pancakes! But it’s also hard to mess up pancakes? Maybe if you’re at a big table with a bunch of friends, it’s better. But I would’ve rather gone somewhere else for breakfast like Moondog Cafe.
Blue Heaven also had a cat there with a severe injury. I asked if anyone was taking care of the cat, if it had been seen by a vet, if I could donate or pay for its care… They continuously brushed me off when asking about the cat, which left a very sour taste in my mouth.
Cafe Marquesa
Loved it here! I ate dinner at the bar and loved everything I ate. I got the She Crab soup, scallops and pork belly, and the dessert trio (beignet, caramel milkshake, and key lime pie). Everything was delicious.
The cocktails were very alcohol-heavy, so if that’s how you like them, this is the place for you. I prefer to not taste the alcohol, but the bartender was very nice!
Overall, it was $90 which honestly felt right for everything I got.
Bagatelle
Bagatelle is on Duval Street and honestly, that should’ve been my first clue lol. I did not enjoy this meal at all. I got the caesar salad, grouper, truffle fries, and a key lime martini. I didn’t enjoy any of it.
The caesar salad was decent, but the grouper was overcooked and the fries were honestly a little bland. What a bummer. It was also around $110 including tip.
Banana Cafe
The best meal I had! Wow it was incredible. I got the shrimp and scallop salad with a pineapple salsa, and a key lime crepe for dessert. This was my highlight meal.
Latitudes
What a gorgeous place! I am tempted to say that the experience was better than the meal… You take a ferry from the docks to Sunset Key and it is such a beautiful ride!
Once you’re dropped off at the dock, you make your way to the restaurant which is right on the beach. I had a great seat and my waiter was very attentive, though I did feel a bit rushed.
I got the caesar salad, onion soup, lobster risotto, and ended with the key lime pie. I wish I had gotten the crab cakes instead of the lobster risotto, as it was almost too seafood-bisque-y for me (very niche complaint, I’m aware). The onion soup was amazing, and the key lime pie had a toasted meringue on top.
I didn’t have any cocktails here, though I hear the key lime martini is the best!
Overall, it was around $130 including tip.
The Lobster Shack
I stopped by The Lobster Shack on my way to the airport and am so glad I made time for this stop! It is a block away from The Reach Resort (where I stayed the last half of my trip), and very small - but delicious.
I got the key lime lobster roll - hot, buttery, with a hint of key lime. So so so good. The roll was $27, which is a bit expensive for just the roll itself, but it is STUFFED with lobster.
Amigos
One of the best tacos I’ve ever had! I got the shredded chicken tacos, made on homemade corn tortillas, and a side of guacamole. The chips were extra salty (which I love), and all of the chicken was so tender and delicious.
I wasn’t drinking much this trip, though I wish I had tried one of their margaritas! For the tacos, a Mexican coke, and guacamole, it was $30 - which is a bit expensive.
Kermits
I grabbed a slice of key lime pie and ate it by the docks one evening, and am sad to say I was disappointed by this slice of key lime pie :(
Onlywood
A trendy pizza, pasta, and cocktail joint - I really enjoyed it here! It was extremely expensive for what you get, so I’d go again for their happy hour which includes a small pepperoni neapolitan pizza for $8 and a margarita for $4.
I got an arugula salad, short rib pappardelle, and a French 75 and it was $70.
