Virgin Hotel New Orleans Review

My dad lives in New Orleans, in the French Quarter specifically, so normally when we visit we can stay with him. However, this trip we wanted to try a new spot in a new area. We decided to stay at Virgin Hotel New Orleans and absolutely loved it.

It is funky, cool, tech-forward, and in a great location. Located right off Poydras, it is in the heart of the Warehouse District, and about a 10 - 15 minute walk to the French Quarter.

Price

We paid around $900 for 4 nights in the King Deluxe room.

Room

We stayed in a basic room with a king bed, but it was still so dreamy and cool. They separate the room into 2 sections, which really helps it feel bigger than it is. When you first walk in, you have your dressing room and restroom - a shower and a water closet (toilet) in separate “rooms,” along with 2 wardrobes, a sink, and a vanity.

They have a pretty set of doors to section off the dressing area from the sleeping area. In the bedroom, we had a king bed, a smart TV, a sitting nook, a mini fridge, and a table with a view of downtown New Orleans. The mattress was also VERY comfortable.

Neal putting the fan in the window crack

Our only issue was the very first night when the thermostat was stuck and the room got up to 91 degrees…. I normally sleep at 66-67 degrees fahrenheit, so I was GRUMPY. We called the front desk, but there was nothing they could do until their engineer showed up. They brought us a fan, which we propped against the open window, but it was still pretty unbearable the first night.

Amenities

This hotel was FUN. There were so many cool areas to explore and it just seemed cool. Some of my favorites were:

Rooftop Bar - The rooftop bar and pool was so neat. It has a great view of downtown and some “igloos” to reserve. It was pretty cold during our trip so we couldn’t really utilize the pool, but they had some heaters. I imagine it is super fun in the summer.

Dimmable Lights - Every light switch in the room is dimmable, which I love! I love a soft light, so it was great being able to dim the lights as I wanted.

Reading Area above bar - I’m not sure this area is meant to be a reading area, but Neal and I got some drinks and sat up in this area above the lobby bar and read our books for a bit. It was so nice! The seating was plentiful and plush, and it was very quiet.

Location

We loved the location. I personally hate staying in the Central Business District, and sometimes find the French Quarter is too isolating, so we found the Warehouse District a great location.

It’s located off Poydras and Baronne, and took us:

  • 10 minutes walking to the French Quarter

  • 10 minutes walking to National WWII Museum

  • 7ish minutes walking to Canal St

  • 10 minutes driving to Garden District

Food/Bev

The lobby bar was pretty decent! The drinks didn’t blow me away, but they were good! We also split the wagyu burger for a snack and it was very, very good.

They also have a breakfast menu + coffee bar in the lobby in the mornings. I LOVE La Colombe coffee and drink their oat milk draft latte cans every morning at home. I ended up bringing a 4-pack on the trip so I didn’t have to buy any while there, but I did end up getting one on my last day (it was EXPENSIVE).

Overall thoughts

We plan on staying here again! It was a great visit, the team there were very nice, very quick and communicative with issues, and we loved it.
