Self-care tips on long-haul flights

Sometimes on those 8-24 hour long flights, you get tired of watching movies, reading books, or just sitting there. This is precious time! I’ve written on in-flight skincare, but here are some more in-depth ways to take care of yourself while on your flight.

  1. Drink lots and lots of water leading up to your trip. Your body gets very dehydrated on planes, so making sure you are properly hydrated prior to your trip is vital.

  2. Whiten your teeth! I love Oral Essential Lumineaux strips. They don’t cause any sensitivity and are non-toxic. You can actually tell a difference after just one or two uses. Highly recommend!

  3. Meditate. There are plenty of apps that will help you through guided meditation. This is also very helpful to those who are nervous fliers.

  4. Face masks! Don’t spritz your face with a spray. Use a face mask or a sheet mask. You may look a little crazy, but you’ll have glowing skin when you get off the plane while everyone else looks tired af.

  5. Chair Yoga. It’s a thing. Look up some ways to stretch (without encumbering your neighbors or the flight attendants) to keep your body loose!

  6. Warm Socks (or compression socks if you need!). I pray to God above that you are not barefoot on your flights. Please make sure your feet are clean and not smelly before you take your shoes off and please be mindful of those around you. That being said, I like to pack some comfy socks and wear those with my tennis shoes or change into them when I’m sitting at my seat. Here are some by Barefoot Dreams.

  7. Eye Masks. If you don’t want to go full force on the face mask, put on some eye gel masks and relax.

  8. Some people do aromatherapy; however, if you do this be mindful of your neighbors. You are in an enclosed space and your neighbors may not enjoy a blast to the nose of whatever smells you like.

  9. Sleep! Use this silk eye mask that has over 1,000 five-star reviews. Invest in a decent neck pillow. I have this one from Walmart and it is actually great! It has memory foam and is cooling, too.
