My top 5 cutest cities I’ve visited

There are cities that are impressive. There are cities that are gritty and have a personality. And then there are cities that are just beautiful. They make an impression and almost take your breath away. You find yourself thinking back to that place and you can remember how you felt and exactly what it looked like in your mind. I’ve visited 25 cities in 16 countries outside of the United States. These are cities that are beautiful and cute and wonderful.

Tallinn

#1 in my heart, obviously. It is a storybook fairytale city. If I could live in Old Town, I absolutely would in a heartbeat. The Old Town is still surrounded by walls and turrets dating back to 1265. They have the most beautiful doors on the most beautiful buildings. Both times I’ve been it’s been so cold, and that made it even more unreal in my opinion.

Kotor

While Croatia has been getting overcrowded with tourists due to it being a filming location for Game of Thrones, its neighbor, Montenegro, is sitting there waiting to be loved! Kotor sits on the only fjord in southern Europe. The water is this gorgeous navy blue I’ve never seen anywhere else, the mountains are black (like the name suggests), and the architecture is unreal. We walked around the old town here and just sitting al fresco drinking wine is one of my favorite travel memories. I had never even heard of Montenegro but it is the most beautiful place I’ve ever visited. While Tallinn is my favorite, Kotor is the most beautiful (just barely lol).

The Hague

When tourists go to the Netherlands, they are almost always visiting Amsterdam. Some may go to Rotterdam, but The Hague is picture-perfect. This is where the royal family lives, it’s along the coast (and has a pier similar to Santa Monica with a giant ferris wheel and some bars), and they have crowns as street lamps! The streets are so clean, which is always a shock to me and something I immediately notice when I visit somewhere. It’s only an hour away from Amsterdam by car and maybe 30-45 minutes by train so be sure to visit next time you’re in Amsterdam and want a break from the coffee shops.

Merida

Wow. Most Americans go to Cancun or Tulum when they visit Mexico and I had only been to Cozumel. My sister moved to Merida for a few months and visiting her there was a trip of a lifetime. While Mexico may seem dangerous to some, Merida is often rated as one of the top 50 safest cities in the world and the second safest city in North America (second to Quebec City in Canada). There is so much culture and color. The food is divine and so fresh. The margaritas… chefs kiss. The cenotes, the ruins, the beach only 30 minutes away. It is truly a wonderful city to visit and an incredibly underrated one.

Burano

One of the islands off of Venice, and a highly recommended day trip (along with Murano), Burano is one of the cutest cities in the world. They make lace here for fashion houses like La Perla. Each house is a different color and it is like a rainbow walking down the streets. Most people haven’t even heard of Burano and miss it when they visit Venice! If you find yourself in Venice, go to Burano for a few hours. You won’t regret it.
