Day Trip to Miami

My family has spent two weeks in Fort Myers Beach every year since 2000. It becomes a little tedious because it’s a lot of sitting on the beach… But the past few years we’ve tried new things in the area. This year may have been the best.

My sister, Keighlin, visited for the first week and flew out of Fort Lauderdale, and my boyfriend visited the second week, also flying into Fort Lauderdale.

I convinced my dad to visit Miami for the day and we had the.best.time. We stuck with Little Havana and Wynwood, but I’ll also share some of my favorite spots to visit, too.

Mojitos @ Ball & Chain

Little Havana

Little Havana was a GEM! We were going to grab lunch at Versailles, but the line was outside and around the corner. So instead we went to La Carreta. We both got Cuban sandwiches and Cuban coffees :)

Then, we went to Ball & Chain for mojitos and other cocktails. This was so much fun. They had live music, great decor and interior, and my dad and I both remarking how we felt like we weren’t in Miami or even America.

We also visited a ton of cigar shops for my dad.

Then, we tried visiting the Frost Science Aquarium & Planetarium, but their parking garage was full so we left.

Wynwood

We walked to the Wynwood Market and the Smorgasboard, both outdoor food markets, but didn’t find anything worth standing in the heat for :)

Just to escape the heat and humidity, we went into Bakan. It was so good! I got a classic margarita and split the queso with my dad. We stayed here for a bit just trying to absorb as much air conditioning as possible.

After Bakan, we walked around admiring the street art, going into some shops, but ultimately didn’t buy anything. Wynwood was super cool and unique though.

We were going to eat dinner at 1-800-LUCKY, an Asian food hall, but we were stuffed still from Cubans and queso so we didn’t, and honestly, I kind of regret it!

Other Places

Prime Cigar in Brickell - if you are with anyone who enjoys Scotch and/or cigars, this is your spot. It’s a bit tough to find, being on the second floor and not having any signage really, but it was really neat. I don’t enjoy Scotch or cigars, but that is about 50% of my dad’s personality lol so we had to go. He had the best time here.

Vizcaya - An incredible museum right on the water. It is a great photo spot, absolutely stunning, and just all-around a great spot for kids or adults!
